Avarca claim eagerly anticipated Spanish derby in #CEVCupW

A Spanish derby between Avarca de MENORCA and Tenerife Libby’s LA LAGUNA was among the highlights in the first leg of the women’s CEV Cup 8th Finals. The hosts representing Avarca eventually emerged victorious in four sets (25-22, 25-16, 22-25, 25-19). 

The first set began with many errors from both teams. However, in the end Avarca de MENORCA showed more determination to win it by the rather close score of 25-22. In the second, the home team coached by Josep Llorens put pressure from the start and gave no option to the visitors, whom they clearly outplayed. The Canarian team had not said its last word though and with a good collective performance, it managed to get closer to the score after taking the third set. However, in the fourth and final set, a highly motivated Avarca looked very determined to secure such an important victory and eventually closed the match 3-1 in their favour. The return match scheduled for December 10 in Tenerife promises many more emotions and will decide which side advances to the next stage of the competition.
