Double domestic crown for Azerrail as Azerbaijani Super League ends

The 2023-2024 edition of the men’s and women’s national leagues of Azerbaijan has finished with a double crown for Azerrail. The competition had started in early November and featured six and four rounds for men’s and women’s teams, respectively. The final stage started with a best-of-three series in the semis where Azerrail and Murov Az Terminal beat MOIK and Neftchi in the men’s league. Azerrail and Absheron, on the other hand, reached the women’s final after edging Ganja and Murov Az Terminal in their respective semi-finals. 

The men’s and women’s finals were contested on April 22 and 23, respectively at Baku Sports Palace. The title deciding matches were preceded by a volleyball festival involving youngsters from across Azerbaijan and finished with a parade involving the eventual league winners and younger players as well. 

Azerrail beat Murov Az Terminal 3-2 in the men’s final. A day later, Azerrail claimed the women’s national league title as well following their 3-1 victory over Absheron. Neftchi beat MOIK to claim third place in the men’s competition, as Murov Az Terminal completed the women’s podium after edging Ganja in the ‘small final’. 

The medal ceremony did not involve only the top three teams from each league, but prizes were awarded to the best players as well.
