Following the mutual agreement for both matches between these two teams to be played in Istanbul in consecutive days, Eczacibasi went out of the gates motivated to secure its place in the semi-finals and won the first match in straight sets in just 80 minutes of match time (3-0; 19-25, 19-25, 21-25).
The second match was a far different affair with Uralochka showing they are not ready to give up just yet and pushing the 3rd set to a score of 31-29 in favour of Eczacibasi. From that point onwards, qualification was decided but the two teams continued to play their best volleyball up until the last 129th minute of the encounter.
Elsewhere, the Romanians from CSM Voley Alba Blaj and the Croatians from Mladost Zagreb have taken big steps towards the semi-finals by winning the first matches of their ties with Volero Le Cannet and ŁKS Commercecon ŁÓDŹ respectively, while the all-German matchup between SSC Palmberg Schwerin and Allianz MTV Stuttgart is yet to kick off.
