This weekend, one of the biggest matches in the women’s club volleyball took place in Türkiye, and with a superior game from beginning to end, Fenerbahce side overpowered Eczacibasi. It was considered as a comfortable weekend for #CLVolleyW participants in Italy and Poland, and while it was the case for five of them, Scandicci side suffered an unexpected defeat from their opponent.

Two of the most elite clubs of the continent, CEV Champions League Volley squads Fenerbahce Medicana Istanbul and Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul faced off in the fifth week of the Turkish Sultanlar League. Prior to the game, both teams had a perfect record, and the result was quite crucial in the sense of standing at the top places. Being aware of this, both teams put a great effort into the court, but from the first ball to the last, the Fenerbahce side clearly played a better game, and had no difficulties in beating their rival by a score of 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 26-24).

The Turkish star opposite of the winning side, Melissa Teresa Vargas became the top scorer of the match with a total of 24 points, including four aces and one block. Serbian international Tijana Boskovic (15 points) and Turkish outside hitter Hande Baladin (14 points) scored in double digits in Eczacibasi. Fenerbahce, therefore, continued their way undefeated even without losing any sets in the first five rounds. Eczacibasi and VakifBank currently have only one failure, placing third and fifth, respectively.

In Italy, all three #CLVolleyW teams played against relatively weaker opponents, and they were all clear favorites of the games. While this held for A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano and Numia Vero Volley Milano, Savino Del Bene Scandicci received a shocking loss: They met Eurotek Uyba Busto Arsizio in the fourth round of the Italian Serie A1 Women. In fact, both teams fought quite hard throughout the battle, and the score was tied 1-1 after the first two sets. After that point, the Scandicci side didn’t manage to play their usual game and suffered a four-set defeat (1-3: 22-25, 25-23, 20-25, 20-25).

Italian opposite Josephine Obossa became the most productive player on the winning side with a total of 27 points. On Scandicci, Italian Ekaterina Antropova tallied 24 points, while Brazilian Ana Carolina Da Silva stuffed five blocks, which was not enough for victory. Maintaining their undefeated status, Conegliano completed the weekend as leaders, being chased by Milano, Chieri and Scandicci.

All three Polish CEV Champions League Volley contenders, Developres Rzeszow, BKS Bostik ZGO Bielsko-Biala, and PGE Grot Budowlani Lodz won their games without losing any sets and continued to fill three of the top four places in charts.

This weekend, Fenerbahce once again showed a superior performance against Eczacibasi and received an important victory in order to keep their perfect record. Meanwhile, Italian and Polish #CLVolleyW clubs passed the weekend without any difficulties, except for Scandicci, who took their first defeat this season. Now, it is time to get prepared for the next clashes and improve the performances.
