This weekend, the champions of the Italian Super Cup became clear, and Imoco once again stood at the top of the podium, this time after a huge battle. Meanwhile, the #CLVolleyW clubs started their national season in Germany and Poland, and they all completed the first round in the best way.
The most anticipated clash of the weekend was held in Italy, where the last #CLVolleyW SuperFinalists, A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano and Vero Volley Milano, took the court against each other for the Italian Super Cup. Even in the absence of their biggest star, Italian opposite Paola Egonu, Milano side clearly put a great effort into the court and found a 2-1 lead. After that point, Daniele Santarelli’s team began to push their performance to a higher level and extended the match to the tie-break. In the determining fifth set, Imoco played a superior game, and they both won the game (3-2: 20-25, 25-16, 21-25, 25-23, 15-11) and defended their title.
Italian middle blocker of the winning side, Sarah Fahr was honored with the MVP award (17 points, including two blocks and one ace), and the most productive player on the winning side was Swedish superstar Isabelle Haak with 20. Italian outside hitter Miriam Sylla’s 24 and Dutch Nika Daalderop’s 19 points were not enough for Milano to victory.
CEV Champions League Volley squad of Germany, Allianz MTV Stuttgart kicked off the season against Schwarz-Weiss Erfurt in the first leg of the German 1. Bundesliga. As expected, there was a huge dominance of Stuttgart from beginning to end, and they beat their opponent in three sets (3-0: 25-13, 25-12, 25-10). Canadian middle blocker Kelsey Veltman was selected as the Most Valuable Player thanks to her 12-point contribution to the team.
Similarly, SSC Palmberg Schwerin also became victorious against VC Wiesbaden in straight sets (3-0: 25-17, 25-21, 25-19) where American middle blocker Jaelyn Keene became the MVP with her 13 points in total, including five blocks.
The national league also started quite well for Polish #CLVolleyW participants: Both BKS Bostik ZGO Bielsko-Biala and PGE Grot Budowlani Lodz opened the season with 3-0 wins, and they showed how ready they are at the national level.
This weekend, Imoco defended their Italian Super Cup title after a thrilling five-set match opposed to Milano, while #CLVolleyW teams in Germany and Poland began their seasons with dominant 3-0 victories. They will definitely continue to improve their performance throughout the season, and it will be exciting to follow them for sure.
