It was another week marked by the dominance of #CLVolleyW contenders across Europe, as the continent’s elite women’s clubs largely maintained their winning form. In Türkiye, all three cruised to comfortable straight-set victories and in Italy, both Novara and Scandicci were pushed to their limits in five-set thrillers but ultimately survived. Yet, the week’s biggest headline came from the Italian Super Cup Final, where Milano achieved a historic triumph over Conegliano, ending the champions’ long-standing domestic dominance.

In what was billed as the most anticipated match of the early season, Europe’s two giants — A. Carraro Prosecco Doc Imoco Conegliano and Numia Vero Volley Milano — faced off for Italy’s first title of the year. Conegliano entered as the overwhelming favorite, having captured every domestic trophy over the past few seasons and winning the last seven consecutive Super Cup finals. The match, however, delivered a spectacle worthy of its billing. Both teams produced volleyball of the highest caliber, trading momentum in a gripping four-set battle that brought the score to 2-2.

In the decisive tie-break, Paola Egonu reminded everyone why she is among the world’s very best. The Italian superstar led Milano with 10 points in the final set alone, finishing the night with 30 points and earning the MVP award for her heroic performance. Khalia Lanier added 14 points, providing key support throughout the contest. On the other side of the net, Isabelle Haak posted a remarkable 32 points, but even her brilliance couldn’t prevent Conegliano from suffering their first title defeat after 18 consecutive domestic championships — spanning the Super Cup, National Cup, and Serie A1 Women.

For sure, Milano’s long-awaited victory not only broke Conegliano’s unprecedented winning streak but also signaled a potential shift in the balance of power within Italy — and perhaps across Europe. Psychologically, it could reshape the competitive landscape as both clubs prepare for their #CLVolleyW campaigns.

Meanwhile, Turkey’s top three powerhouses — VakıfBank Istanbul, Fenerbahçe Medicana Istanbul, and Eczacıbaşı Dynavit Istanbul — continued to dominate as expected, each earning maximum points from their opening two matches and establishing early momentum. In Italy’s regular league play, Igor Gorgonzola Novara and Savino Del Bene Scandicci demonstrated resilience by surviving five-set battles against supposedly weaker opponents, underlining the unpredictable nature of the early season.

With Milano’s statement victory and the rest of Europe’s elite in form, the stage is now set for an exhilarating phase in the road toward CEV Champions League Volley glory.
