More than 10,000 fans witness thrilling Belgian Cup Finals

The Lotto Cup Finals account for the annual highlight for every Belgian Volleyball enthusiast. In a sold-out Sportpaleis, Antwerp, history was written on Sunday. Four teams delivered Volleyball from the highest level, and the crowd played a leading role too, cheering the players with much passion and without any interruption from the fully packed stands.

Knack ROESELARE set new record with 15th trophy

The men’s final was a clash between Knack ROESELARE and Decospan VT MENEN. Both teams are based in West Flanders, so it was not just a derby, it was a fierce fight between two neighbours. As a blue-green wall of support filled the stands, Knack ROESELARE took the first set relatively easily. MENEN stepped up their game, forcing their opponents to play their absolute best. The guys in blue shirts stood up in the money time and did not hold back, registering a clean sweep (25-18, 25-23, 25-22) to win the 15th Belgian Cup in their history, making them the all-time record holders in the men’s competition. Knack ROESELARE setter Stijn D’Hulst was awarded as Most Valuable Player.

Asterix Avo BEVEREN complete unprecedented comeback

But the biggest spectacle was delivered by Asterix Avo BEVEREN and VDK GENT Dames in the women’s final. They got all the fans on their feet during an unforgettable tie-break. The match went from 1-0 to 1-1, 2-1 to 2-2. GENT took a furious start in the decisive set, gaining a 6-1 advantage. Case closed would you think, but the youngsters of Asterix do not know the meaning of giving up. They gave everything and as the score stood at 13-13, the whole crowd stood up to cheer their favourite team to victory. The fans in red had the final applause as Asterix Avo BEVEREN added another Cup to their impressive trophy cabinet (25-23, 20-25, 26-24, 23-25, 15-13). MVP of the final match was Britt Rampelberg, Asterix Avo’s libero.
