News
Panathinaikos ATHENS has progressed to the quarterfinals of the women’s Challenge Cup after claiming a second 3-0 victory in as many matches with European Cups rookies Sporting Clube de BRAGA of Portugal. On Thursday, the ‘Greens’ needed 75 minutes only to cruise to a 25-18, 25-23, 25-18 win. Their next opponent for a spot in the semis will be Serbia’s Crvena Zvezda BEOGRAD.
Alessandro Chiappini“This is certainly an important victory and qualification against a notable opponent. We had a good performance and combined it with substance. We definitely have a winning streak, which is pleasing, but we have not won anything just yet. We are constantly preparing for the upcoming matches that will decide a lot in both domestic and European competitions.”
Head coach of Panathinaikos
Micaya White, player of Panathinaikos: “We achieved a very important victory and we are certainly happy with the result and the qualification. However, we are looking ahead to the next matches and we want to keep winning in what is a particularly demanding schedule from here onwards.”
João Santos“For us, today was a difficult second leg, and it was something we knew since the first match in Portugal. Across the two games, three sets were played that were very close and decided by small details, and we lost all of them. Consequently, we could not claim anything more.”
Head coach of Sporting Clube de BRAGA
Thainalien Castillo Leyva, player of BRAGA: “We are certainly not satisfied with the results of the two matches, but we lost crucial points in both encounters and thus we did not make it to the next round.”
