This weekend, there were several important clashes that affected the leaderboards in the top national leagues in Europe. #CLVolleyM squads—Perugia in Italy, Warszawa in Poland, and Halkbank in Türkiye—achieved critical victories and maintained their strong records.
One of the strongest teams on the continent, CEV Champions League Volley squad Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia, faced Itas Trentino in the fifth round of the Italian SuperLega. Trentino started the clash quite powerfully and took a 1-0 lead in sets. From the second set onward, Perugia began to push their limits and improve their performance, which resulted in a four-set victory (3-1: 19-25, 25-22, 26-24, 25-19).
Ukrainian outside hitter Oleh Plotnytskyi was selected as the Most Valuable Player, thanks to his 28-point performance, which included four aces and three blocks. Wassim Ben Tara (21 points) and Yuki Ishikawa (15 points) also contributed significantly to their team’s win. Italian outside hitter Alessandro Michieletto tallied 18 points for the losing side.
The other two #CLVolleyM teams in the country, Allianz Milano and Vero Volley Monza, once again suffered losses in their domestic matches. At the moment, Perugia is at the top of the standings with a perfect record of 5-0, while the remaining teams stand in ninth and tenth places, respectively.
Two unbeaten squads faced each other in the fourth round of the Turkish Efeler League. The CEV Champions League Volley contender Halkbank Ankara beat Spor Toto in straight sets (3-0: 25-22, 26-24, 25-20) and remained undefeated alongside CEV Cup squad Galatasaray Istanbul. Fenerbahce Medicana Istanbul lost to Ziraat Bankasi Ankara by a score of 3-1, causing them to drop to seventh place.
Another highly anticipated battle took place in Poland between the CEV Champions League Volley club Projekt Warszawa and the undefeated leader LUK Lublin in the ninth round of the Polish PlusLiga. Except for the first set, there was clear dominance from Warszawa, who emerged victorious in four sets (3-1: 21-25, 25-20, 25-15, 25-21).
German opposite Linus Weber delivered an outstanding performance for the winning team: with six aces, he scored a total of 22 points, making him the most productive player on the court. Despite 19 points from Wilfredo Leon and 18 from Kewin Sasak, Lublin fell short. Thanks to the victory, Warszawa also took the top spot in the overall standings.
This weekend went quite well for #CLVolleyM squads, as they had significant battles against major rivals. Perugia in Italy, Halkbank in Türkiye, and Warszawa in Poland all secured three-point wins and maintained their lead in the rankings. We will see if these teams can keep up their momentum in the following rounds, or if surprises are in store.
