This weekend, all eyes were on Italy where the top four teams of the country fought for the first title of the season, the national Super Cup. While each team performed quite well, #CLVolleyM squad Perugia took the first title by a tough five-setter final match against Trentino. On the other hand, BR Volleys in Germany and Roeselare in Belgium did not let any surprises happen and kicked off the season with straight-set victories.
The Final Four stage of the Italian Super Cup took place this weekend, and all four teams tried to reach the top of the podium. At the first semifinal, CEV Champions League Volley participant Sir Sicoma Monini Perugia passed Gas Sales Bluenergy Piacenza in four sets (3-1: 25-22, 23-25, 25-20, 25-21) and became the first team booked their spots in the final. The second one was easier for Itas Trentino, where they beat #CLVolleyM team Vero Volley Monza by 3-0 (25-20, 25-21, 25-23).
The final clash was held on Sunday, and there was a definitely immense battle from the first ball to the last. While the game was tied to 2-2 after four sets, Perugia showed a definite superior performance in the decisive tie-break set and became the Italian Super Cup champion for the third time in a row.
Japanese star outside hitter Yuki Ishikawa was honored with the MVP title, thanks to his elite performance: Including two blocks and one ace, the new transfer of the Perugia became the most productive player of his team with a total of 20 points. The top scorer of the game was Trentino’s Gabi Garcia Fernandez with 24, which was not enough for victory.
