Another intense weekend of domestic league action saw #CLVolleyW squads battle for crucial points. The highlight came from Poland, where Rzeszow and Lodz clashed in a high-stakes matchup. Meanwhile, Italy witnessed a surprising setback for Savino Del Bene Scandicci, while Turkish giants continued their dominant form with commanding victories.
Without a doubt, the most anticipated match of the weekend was held in Poland, between two CEV Champions League Volley participants, Developres Rzeszow and PGE Grot Budowlani Lodz in the 17th round of the Polish Tauron League. Lodz side started strong against league leader Rzeszow, claiming the opening set and signaling a competitive showdown. However, Rzeszow responded with authority, turning the match in their favor to secure a 3-1 victory (23-25, 26-24, 25-21, 25-16). This win solidified their position at the top of the standings, reinforcing their dominance in the league by increasing the gap between their closest follower, Lodz to four points.
The Polish middle blocker Magdalena Jurczyk was honored with the MVP title, mostly thanks to her 13-point performance, including four blocks. Her compatriot, the outside hitter Monika Fedusio (19 points, including three blocks and one ace), and Brazilian opposite Sabrina Machado (15 points, with one block and ace) also led their team to this important victory. Polish outside hitter Paulina Damaske tallied 19 points on the losing side.
In Italy, it was a comfortable weekend for #CLVolleyW contenders A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano and Numia Vero Volley Milano, but not for the Savino Del Bene Scandicci. They met Megabox Ond. Savio Vallefoglia in the 21st leg of the Italian Serie A1. Despite being favorites, Scandicci struggled to find their rhythm against a determined Vallefoglia side, resulting in a shocking 0-3 (22-25, 23-25, 22-25) defeat. Due to this loss, they also fell behind Milano in charts as well: While Conegliano maintained their perfect record with 63 points, now the Milano side took the vice-leader position with 50 points, while Scandicci stayed in 48 points.
In Turkey’s Sultanlar Ligi, the three #CLVolleyW representatives, Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul, Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul, and VakifBank Istanbul, all delivered dominant performances, securing straight-set victories. Therefore, they also preserved their top three positions in the overall standings, with a leading Eczacibasi with 17 wins and 50 points in total.
This weekend, Rzeszow side stayed strong against Lodz and kept their top place in the Polish league, while Scandicci’s unexpected loss changed the top three standings in Italy. As the domestic leagues progress, #CLVolleyW teams will continue battling for crucial points while keeping their sights set on continental glory.
