Second tie-break win propels Lindemans AALST to historic European Cup final

Lindemans AALST secured a thrilling 3-2 victory over VK Slovan BRATISLAVA in the second leg of the #CEVChallengeCupM semifinals on Wednesday, in a match that featured dramatic swings and some of the most intense rallies of the season. This way, Lindemans will feature in a European Cup final for the first time in their history.

The Belgian side started strong, claiming the opening two sets 25-20 and 25-19 behind powerful attacking from Camden Gianni, who finished with 22 points including 10 breaks, and Enrique Rempel, who contributed 18 points with 17 winning spikes. Matis Verwimp anchored the reception game for Aalst, recording the highest perfect reception rate at 29%, while Nicholas Slight led the team defensively with five winning blocks.
However, Slovan, showing why they are the first Slovak team to reach a European semifinal since 2005, roared back in sets three and four. The hosts took the third 25-22 and the fourth convincingly 25-15, with Tomas Krisko scoring 21 points and forcing Aalst into extended rallies. Slovan’s resilience set up a tense decider, with both teams trading points in front of a packed arena.
In the fifth set, Aalst held their nerve, pulling ahead 15-13 to secure the victory after 127 minutes of play. The win secures the first European Cup final for the Belgian club after two hard-fought 3-2 victories over Slovan in Bratislava as well as on home soil. As VC LENNIK, they had previously finished fourth in the 1987 edition of the CEV Cup - and as Volley behappy 2 ASSE-LENNIK equal third in the CEV Cup 2015.
The match was a showcase of endurance, skill, and composure under pressure, with Aalst’s balanced attack and clutch performances ultimately making the difference in a classic European semifinal battle.
