2023 is over now, and the top teams in Europe took the court one more time last weekend in their domestic leagues. There were a lot of good clashes, but especially all eyes were on Jastrzebski, Trentino, and BR Volleys. The second and third clubs did not let any surprises happen and completed the year with comfortable victories, but this was different for Jastrzebski side.

The undefeated leader in #CLVolleyM Group D, Jastrzebski Wegiel met Aluron CMC Warta Zawiercie in the 13th week of the Polish PlusLiga. Jastrzebski was the clear pre-favorite of the game since they were in the lead with only one defeat before, but they could not perform well and suffered their second defeat (3-1: 21-25, 27-25, 25-19, 25-21).

Polish outside hitter Patryk Laba became the MVP of the clash with eight points in total, and the top scorer of the match was Karol Butryn (23 points), followed by Bartosz Kwolek (15), and Mateusz Bieniek (12) on the winning side. French opposite Jean Patry’s 18 points were not enough for Jastrzebski to win.

Due to this failure, Jastrzebski lost their first place in the overall standings. Now, the new leader of Poland was Projekt Warszawa, with 12 victories in 13 games and 35 points in total.

Italian superpower Itas Trentino faced Cisterna Volley in the 12th round of the Italian SuperLega. With a superior game from the first serve to the last, the host team had no difficulties and won the battle in straight sets (3-0: 25-19, 25-20, 25-20).

Luxembourgian opposite Kamil Rychlicki was once again selected as the Most Valuable Player, thanks to his 13 points. Alessandro Michieletto and Daniele Lavia were the other players who scored in double digits on the winning side with 17 and 11, respectively. Theo Faure tallied 20 points in Cisterna.

Trentino side, therefore, maintained their first position with eleven victories and 31 points in total. They also continued to preserve the gap with vice-leaders Perugia and third-positioned Piacenza.

Similar to Trentino, Berlin Recycling Volleys also carried on their top place in Germany: They hosted SWD powervolleys Düren in the eleventh leg of German 1. Bundesliga, and they took a three-point victory by a score of 3-1 (25-15, 25-19, 16-25, 25-22). Ruben Schott (16), Marek Sobota (15), and Nehemiah Mote were the most productive players on the winning team.

Trentino and BR Volleys put a perfect end to 2023 by continuing to lead their domestic leagues. Jastrzebski will start the new year in second position, but they will definitely reach their top-level game soon and try to take first place again in Poland. We will all see what the new year will bring in national leagues and whose year 2024 will be.
