This weekend, while the main phase was completed in the most challenging domestic leagues, Italy and Turkey, and the top of the charts became clear by the set ratio between the elite teams.

The reigning CEV Champions League Volley titleholder and the first SuperFinalist of this year, A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano visited Volley Bergamo 1991 in the last round of the main phase of the Italian Serie A1.

Mostly thanks to Italian superstar Paola Egonu, who shone with 23 points this time, Imoco won the clash with a clear score of 3-0.

Led by Turkish opposite Ebrar Karakurt, who scored 17 points, CEV Champions League Volley’s fourth-round participant Igor Gorgonzola Novara passed Reale Mutua Fenera Chieri without losing any sets and finished the primary round with a clear victory.

Therefore, both Imoco and Novara completed the regular season with 23 victories and 66 points in 26 matches. However, with a higher set ratio (3.17), Imoco stayed on top, and Novara (2.88) remained at second. In the quarterfinals, they will meet Il Bisonte Firenze and Bosca S. Bernardo Cuneo, respectively.

In Turkey, CEV Champions League Volley semifinalist VakifBank Istanbul, who guaranteed to finish the main round as leaders last week, overpowered Kuzeyboru by 3-1, where Swedish opposite Isabelle Haak stood out with 26 points, including five blocks.

However, the vice-leader became clear with the set ratios of the CEV Champions League Volley semifinalist Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul and the CEV Cup champion Eczacibasi Dynavit.

Fenerbahce took the court earlier and defeated Karayollari Ankara in three sets with the help of young Brazilian talent Ana Cristina De Souza’s 17 points. Fenerbahce, therefore, started to wait for the Eczacibasi side. However, Eczacibasi let no surprises and beat Bolu Belediyespor with a superior game.

By these results, these two teams completed the regular season behind VakifBank with 22 wins and 66 points apiece. Since Eczacibasi had a better set ratio (3.50) than Fenerbahce (3.23), they placed second.

This weekend, the regular phase of the domestic leagues came to an end, and the top teams lined up by their set ratios: Imoco took the lead in Italy, and Eczacibasi got the second place in Turkey as a result of their higher set averages.
