The first clashes of the #CLVolleyW will be held this week, where one Turkish and one Italian superpower will come across each other. This weekend could have gone better for Turkish squads Fenerbahce and Eczacibasi since they left the court with failure, whereas Imoco and Milano completed the weekend with three-point victories.

The leader of the Turkish Sultanlar League and one of the CEV Volley Champions League Volley Women semifinalists, Fenerbahce Opet Istanbul, hosted Turk Hava Yollari Istanbul in the 24th round. Turk Hava Yollari started to match with solid domination and found a 2-0 lead in sets, but Stefano Lavarini’s team then showed their usual game and extended the battle to the tie-break. At the determining set, Turk Hava Yollari once again managed to overpower their opponent and left the court with victory (3-2: 25-23, 25-19, 21-25, 18-25, 15-11).

Canadian opposite Kiera Van Ryk was highlighted with 32 points, including an outstanding service performance (7 aces) and one block point. Turkish outside hitter Neriman Ozsoy also helped her team for the victory with 20 points. Russian young star Arina Fedorovtseva (20) and Turkish Melissa Vargas (14) were the players who scored in double digits on Fenerbahce.

Another two powerhouses faced off in Türkiye as well: The #CLVolleyW semifinalist Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul met the reigning titleholder of the most prestigious tournament in Europe, VakifBank Istanbul. Even though the match was expected to be more challenging for both sides, VakifBank put a more robust game from beginning to end and became victorious in three sets (3-0: 25-18, 25-22, 25-23).

American opposite Jordon Thompson (13 points, including three blocks and one ace) became the top scorer on the winning side, while outside hitters Gabi Guimaraes and Bianka Busa produced 11 points apiece. Serbian superstar of the Eczacibasi, Tijana Boskovic’s 22 points were not enough for them to leave the court with a win.

Even though these two teams failed in their last sets, the overall standings did not change in Türkiye: Fenerbahce maintained their first position, and Eczacibasi kept chasing them closely. Now, VakifBank tied the records (22-2 for three of them) and stood in third place. We will all see how the charts will change in the remaining two matches of the regular season.
