CSM Volei Alba BLAJ, a club founded in 2011, are about to start their eight straight campaign in the European Cups. They do so later tonight in Budapest, against Vasas Óbuda, in the first leg of the #CEVCupW 16th Finals.

The runners-up from the last edition of the Romanian national league, Volei Alba BLAJ aim for further success in European competitions, where, in their previous seven participations, managed to reach three finals: Champions League (2018), CEV Cup (2019) and Challenge Cup (2021).

In Budapest, Volei Alba BLAJ will meet an older acquaintance, Vasas Óbuda, whom the Romanian team defeated twice (3-1 and 3-0) in Pool D of the CEV Champions League Volley 2020.

With a new head coach, Stevan Ljubičić (41 years old), who returned to Blaj after working as an assistant coach there from 2016 to 2019, the Romanians have had a perfect start to the season. The team won the Romanian Super Cup and all of their matches in the national league as well – where they top the charts with maximum points.

“We will play against an extremely important team in Hungarian Volleyball, a team that we met two years ago in the Champions League and that we know quite well. We know what to expect in Hungary, I think they know us quite well too and we have come to Budapest to win. Before the first match, the chances are equal, we have the advantage that in a week the return will be taking place in Sibiu, but there will be two very difficult matches anyway.”
