CEV Champions League Volley 2023 | Women
A true globetrotter, Sinead Jack has now reached the peak of her career, after featuring for teams in Poland, Türkiye, Japan and Italy. Back in Türkiye for her third stint, after playing for Galatasaray and Ilbank, the middle blocker qualified for the first time in the SuperFinals, as her transfer proved to be one of the finals pieces of the puzzle for Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul.
With a resume scattered with personal awards while playing for the national team of Trinidad and Tobago, Jack never got even a sniff of the trophy in the CEV Champions League | Women, but is finally close to clinching it, only a game against archrivals VakifBank Istanbul separating her from the first piece of European silverware in her career.
This season has been nothing short of exceptional for Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul, which rode a nine-game winning streak and dropped a single match from the 10 they played so far in the European premium competition, to set up an exciting do-or-die game in Turin.
And Jack has been a sure-fire part of that excellent run, settling in her new surroundings immediately, getting better and better, as the chemistry with her teammates improved.
Despite playing only six matches this season in the CEV Champions League | Women, the Trinidad and Tobago middle blocker ranks 18th in the top blocker standings, with 17 blocks, roughly 0.68 per set, a number which would rank her in the top 10 in the average standings.
But it is not necessarily all about numbers, it is also about the intangibles, such as the experience Jack brings to the table, after featuring in so many different championships, playing with plenty of talented players and learning the tips and tricks over the last decade, after first coming to Europe in 2010.
Despite not boasting the attacking prowess of some of her teammates, she has been instrumental in some of the matches Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul played so far this season, including boasting a three-block tally and a nine-point tally in the semi-final against Igor Gorgonzola Novara, when the Turkish side bounced back, after the first-game loss.
Now, Eczacibasi Dynavit Istanbul are playing for the title for the first time in eight years, they will face a truly disruptive opponent in VakifBank Istanbul, in what projects to be a final for the ages. While stars like Tijana Bošković need to be in top form for this game, they also need some extra help from Jack, who was signed exactly for this type of games, where the fine margins will decide the winner.
