3:2 win does not belong in Germany’s plans

Dessau / Nordhausen, Germany, July 10, 2014.  Ten players from the Oldenburg weekend roster plus Jennifer Geerties from Rote Raben VILSBIBURG and Carina Aulenbrock from SCHWERINER SC form the German cadre for the last pool play leg of the 2014 CEV Volleyball European League - Women.  Germany just needs one victory from its last two matches in Pool B against visiting Greece to reach the final against Turkey which will be staged in Bursa and provisionally in Ruesselsheim next week.

Two points out of both games are enough for the German team, but setter Maren Apitz disagrees with such a plan.  “A 3:2 victory is not our aim when we play in front of our home crowd.  We want to win both games clearly and go to final in a good mood,” said Apitz.

So far Giovanni Guidetti has been working with a squad of 12 players.  He brought back wing spiker Jennifer Geerties and opposite Carina Aulenbrock.  Laura Weihenmaier, who was one of the top scorers in Oldenburg, takes a break after playing through the whole European League campaign so far.  Middle blocker Anja Brandt is forced to pass due to an injury.

Germany will play with Greece on Friday at 19:30 local time at the Anhalt Arena in Dessau and on Sunday at 15:00 local time at the Wiedigsburghalle in Nordhausen.  The Friday match is scheduled for live streaming on LAOLA1.tv.
