Eda Erdem to captain Team Türkiye in third Olympic appearance

The roster of Team Türkiye for the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games has been revealed. The 2023 European champions coached by Daniele Santarelli, will be aiming high in Paris after last year they claimed top honours from the Volleyball Nations League (VNL), EuroVolley and the World Cup / Olympic qualifier held in Japan. The roster includes the following players:

Setters: Cansu Özbay, Elif Şahin
Opposite: Melissa Vargas
Outside Hitters: Hande Baladın, Ebrar Karakurt, Meliha Diken (Ismailoğlu), Tuğba İvegin (Senoğlu), Derya Cebecioğlu
Middle Blockers: Eda Erdem Dündar, Zehra Güneş, Aslı Kalaç
Libero: Gizem Örge
Reserve Player: Beyza Arıcı (Middle Blocker)

Team Türkiye drew global attention thanks to their exceptional performances throughout last year, thereby creating unforgettable moments for Turkish volleyball fans. Following their unprecedented successes, this team will compete in the Olympics for the second consecutive time and the third time overall at Paris 2024. They previously featured at London 2012 as well as in Tokyo three years ago. 

Team captain Eda Erdem will experience her third Olympic appearance. Meanwhile, Elif Şahin, Melissa Vargas, Aslı Kalaç, Derya Cebecioğlu, Gizem Örge, and Beyza Arıcı will be able to call themselves an Olympian for the first time in their careers. 

Eyes on Paris 2024

The performance of Team Türkiye at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games is eagerly anticipated. Last year’s resulted obviously boosted the confidence in the team, and fans are excitedly preparing to support the ‘Sultans of the Net’. Competing in the Olympics for a second consecutive time, Team Türkiye aims to represent their country in the best possible way and to make history again. All Turkish volleyball fans will have their eyes on this major tournament in Paris. Türkiye are yet to win an Olympic medal in any team sport.
