European Teams Leading the Standings into Phase 2 of the Volleyball World Championship

The first Pool Phase of the Volleyball World Championship concluded this past weekend with seven out of the ten European teams present at the start of the competition qualifying into the next round. Standouts so far have been Italy (15), Serbia (14) and Türkiye (11 Pts), each winning its respective pool.

Teams Qualified into Pool Phase 2: Italy, Serbia (pool leaders in the second phase), Türkiye, Belgium, Netherlands, Poland and Germany

Teams eliminated: Bulgaria, Czech Republic and Croatia

While there is still everything to play for as teams prepare for the last push before the quarter finals, carrying the points from the previous round gives the top performers from Phase 1 the edge. Thus, as things stand there are four European teams in the top four of the Pool Phase 2 (Italy and Belgium in Pool E and Serbia, Türkiye in Pool F), with Poland and the Netherlands (both 6th in their pools) still very much in the fight.

Germany occupies the last position in Pool F with 7 Pts and 2 Wins, after a rocky start to the competition, however they are currently only 3 Pts behind the team occupying the last qualifying spot, Thailand (10 Pts/4 Wins).

Pool E: Italy, China, Belgium, Japan, Brazil Netherlands, Puerto Rico, Argentina

Pool F: Serbia, United States, Türkiye, Thailand, Dominican Republic, Poland, Canada, Germany

*During Phase 2 teams will not repeat matches from Phase 1.

After a much deserved rest day, the competition resumes tomorrow 4th October, with Łódź in Poland and Rotterdam in the Netherlands as hosts.
