On Wednesday afternoon, Sweden delighted their 1,050 fans in Örebro by cruising to a 3-1 victory over Hungary (25-10, 25-20, 24-26, 25-23) to seal their spot in the final of the women’s CEV Volleyball European League 2026. The Swedes had previously secured a 3-2 away win this past weekend and now progress to the last stage of the competition with a perfect record of eight wins in as many matches they have contested this far.

Isabelle Haak scored 26 points for Sweden in their 3-1 home win over Hungary

Sweden looked absolutely dominant in the first set (25-10) and did control the match from start to the end of the second set as well (25-20) even though Hungary displayed far more resistance there. Hungary edged and incredibly close third set (26-24) to stay in contention but Sweden regrouped and won a closely contested fourth set (25-23) to progress to the final. Their superstar Isabelle Haak top scored with 26 points as Hanna Hellvig – sister of Beach Volleyball icon and Olympic, World and European champion Jonatan – added 16 to the Swedish count. Anett Németh and Lilla Kiss responded with 22 and 20, respectively, for Hungary.

“It was a bit of an up-and-down match. I do not think Hungary was quite ready in the first set, but we knew they would come back strong. After that, it became a really close battle, much closer than our first match when you see the set numbers. In the end, it is nice to win a match like this with a bit of drama. I also think we played more consistently than we did on Saturday, so that is a positive. Now we are looking forward to the final and hope we can keep improving,” Haak commented.

Sweden will be aiming for their second title in the competition – they previously won the Golden League in 2024. Both Sweden and Hungary have also qualified for the CEV EuroVolley 2028 after finishing among the top four of the League Round. Sweden’s rivals in the final will be Slovenia – winner of the other semi-final with Slovakia – who are yet to lost a single set in the competition.
