Hubert Henno has been appointed as the new head coach of the Spanish men’s national team. The Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) announced the hiring of the French coach, who will take charge of the Red Lynxes in their upcoming competitions. The 48-year-old coach succeeds José Luis Moltó, who was at the helm of Team Spain during the last international season.

French Volleyball legend Hubert Henno will be leading the Red Lynxes as of May

The men’s national team enters a new era under Hubert Henno’s leadership, with two major challenges ahead: the upcoming edition of the CEV European Golden League and the second batch of the CEV EuroVolley 2026 qualifiers. The French coach will officially take the reins in May when the Red Lynxes gather in Guadalajara to start their preparations for the European League.

Hubert Henno is a true legend of French Volleyball, having represented his country 254 times and boasting an outstanding playing career. His impressive list of achievements includes two Champions League titles, a CEV Cup, and league and cup victories in Russia, Italy, and his native France. After retiring as a libero in 2019 with TOURS VB, Henno transitioned to coaching, first taking charge of that same club. In 2021, he joined NANTES Rezé Métropole Volley, where he remained until 2024 when the team ceased operations after winning the French Cup. For the upcoming season, Hubert Henno will combine his role with the Spanish national team with his position as head coach of the Polish club Cuprum Stilon GORZÓW.

Henno has completed a very successful transition into coaching roles after an impressive playing career

“With Hubert, we are starting a new chapter for the men’s national team, which we hope will be transformative, bringing fresh energy and giving the team a much-needed boost,” stated Felipe Pascual, RFEVB President.

“The decision was not an easy one. However, Hubert Henno brings all the enthusiasm and expertise needed to lead this new long-term project. Our goal is to improve in the Golden League and climb the FIVB rankings,” Pascual explained. He also acknowledged the difficulty of qualifying for the next European Championship but emphasised, “The team will fight until the very end and do their job. In the end, the results will speak for themselves.”
