e Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) have announced the appointment of Miguel Rivera as the new head coach of their men’s national team. The 37-year-old coach from Madrid will lead the Red Lynxes this coming summer – with Spain due to contest the 2022 edition of the CEV European Golden League as well as the CEV EuroVolley 2023 qualifiers.

The Red Lynxes will face an intense summer in 2022 with several competitive challenges. They will do so under the guidance of Miguel Rivera. Despite his young age, the Madrid-born Rivera has already had a long career, working with national teams and spending a five-year stretch (2009-2014) at the permanent training camp in the city of Palencia. There, together with Ricardo Maldonado, Rivera helped write some of the most brilliant pages in Spanish Volleyball history, finishing second at the U18 World Championship in Argentina in 2011 and at the U20 European Championship held in 2012 in Poland and Denmark.

“I am very happy and grateful to the RFEVB for the appointment. It is a dream come true to be able to coach your country’s national team, something that I never thought could happen when I started this journey, but that was always a desire."

“I have full confidence in the constant growth experienced in recent years by the group, and I believe that we will be able to overcome beautiful and interesting challenges, thus helping grow Spanish Volleyball as a whole”, he continued.

“I think that Miguel Rivera is a very serious and hard-working coach, he is a man of our own house, who has been working at the permanent training camps and with the national teams before. Miguel Rivera is at an optimal choice to take charge of the national team due to his age, knowledge and experience,” stated RFEVB President Agustín Martín Santos.
