Renowned Volleyball experts Jovo Caković and Ivica Jevtić have officially signed contracts with the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro (OSCG) and have been presented as the head coaches for the women’s and men’s national teams, respectively.
Jovo Caković, the successful coach of the women’s team Jedinstvo from Stara Pazova and last season’s winner of a domestic treble, has signed a four-year contract with the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro. Meanwhile, Ivica Jevtić, coach of the men’s team of Crvena Zvezda, the current champion of Serbia and winner of this season’s Supercup, has signed a three-year contract with an option for an additional year.
Caković stated that the talent of young Montenegrin players was a special motivation for his arrival. He emphasised that his doors are open to anyone who can contribute to women’s Volleyball in Montenegro or who wishes to improve. “For me, this is a special day. I also talk a little about emotions, but it is a great responsibility to pay back the trust of the people who have hired me. I have no doubt that over these four years we will be even more motivated and that we will have the strength to raise the level of Montenegrin Volleyball, more specifically women’s Volleyball. Where does the motivation come from? I am motivated because I have recognised people with great enthusiasm, especially OSCG President Nikola Kažić. There are few such people today. I hope we will celebrate progress and successes, and I ask for your great patience. I hope we can help children develop both as individuals and in Volleyball. We aim to create good people, achieve good results, and make an impact on the Balkan and European stage. I believe we will achieve success. I trust that I will have good cooperation with the players who are willing to play for the national team. They will always have my understanding and support.”
Jevtić, a returnee to Montenegrin Volleyball after having been a representative of Montenegro and a member of Budućnost during his playing career, is excited about the new opportunity to collaborate with the Volleyball Federation of Montenegro.
“I thank the President for the trust and all the members of the Board of Directors who decided to appoint me as the head coach. From the very beginning, when Nikola Kažić called me, I was already excited, knowing that I earned my recognition as a player in Montenegro, at Budućnost. Now, I have the opportunity to find my place in the Volleyball world as a national team head coach, and for all of us to grow together. It is a great privilege. I hope to meet the expectations of all Volleyball fans and the entire sports public.”
“The previous coach started the process of rejuvenating the national team, and that trend will continue. The primary goal of the national team’s work will be to promote young players and to perform as well as possible in the second part of the qualifiers for the 2026 European Championship. There is still a chance for us to qualify. It is slim, but we will not give up. It will certainly be a success if we can promote young players.”
OSCG President Nikola Kažić expressed his satisfaction that the new coaches were the only candidates he spoke with and the top choices of the OSCG leadership. “I want us to have the best possible cooperation. I will be at your service, and I hope you will be at ours as well, to create the best possible working conditions. I thank the previous head coaches for their fair collaboration and wish them all the best in their future endeavours.
When we, as the Board of Directors, made the decision to begin the search for new ones, we analysed what we needed based on the composition of our teams, which are young but promising. We were looking for coaches with a winning mentality, and I am incredibly satisfied and happy. These are the only two people we talked to; they were our only wishes. We managed to bring them to Montenegro, to get what we truly wanted, and of course, we are happy about that. I will not spend too much time on words. These are coaches who have won numerous trophies at both club and national levels. They have been part of serious coaching staffs and are well-known to everyone. Our goal will be to closely monitor the development of Montenegrin Volleyball. We have particularly strong youth and cadet teams that we will develop in the coming years and integrate into the senior national teams’ activities.”
The new head coaches will have their first activities in mid-May, when the CEV European League 2025 is scheduled to take place.
