On Wednesday, the national teams of Poland, Ukraine, and Estonia started their journey at the EEVZA qualifier for this year’s #EuroVolleyU20W in emphatic style with comprehensive wins over their respective opponents.

Poland needed three sets only to edge hosts Lithuania on the opening day of the EEVZA qualifier

The tournament in Lithuania began with the matchup featuring Estonia and Azerbaijan. The young girls from Estonia did not leave any chances to their opponents from the Caucasus region and secured their first win of the competition in three straight sets (25-10, 25-15, 25-22).

In the second match, which happened to be the most emotional of the day, Ukraine proved their worth against Latvia by cruising to a compelling 3-0 win (25-15, 25-22, 25-21) as well.

Later in the day, despite the loud support by the home crowd, Lithuania could not start their campaign on home soil with a victory. Team Lithuania tried to keep the initiative in the early stages of each set, but they could not spring any surprise. The superiority of the Polish team was unquestionable. The visitors defeated the home side in three quick sets (25-17, 25-13, 25-16). Anna Fiedorowicz contributed with a personal tally of 18 points to the success of the Polish team, thereby accounting for the top individual performance across the three matches contested on Day 1.

The tournament continues Thursday with the eventual winners qualifying for the #EuroVolleyU20W Final Round scheduled for later this summer in Bulgaria and Ireland. Live streaming of all matches is available on the official YouTube channel of the Lithuanian Volleyball Federation
