Semi-finals and 6th – 7th place

Sunday brought high-level Volleyball from early in the morning. In the first semi-final, Scotland faced the Faroe Islands in a match that went the distance. Scotland took the first two sets, but the Faroe Islands fought back to force a fifth set, which Scotland ultimately won to book their place in the final.

The second semi-final followed a similar script. San Marino won the first two sets against Ireland, who pushed the match to a fifth and final set. San Marino held their nerve to close it out and secure their spot in the final.

In the match for 6th and 7th place, host nation Andorra started strong, winning the first set against Liechtenstein. However, Liechtenstein responded quickly, taking the next three sets to win 3-1 and finish sixth, while Andorra settled for seventh place on home soil.

In the third place match, the Faroe Islands gave Ireland no chance, sweeping the match 3-0 to claim the bronze medal in straight sets.

The Final

In the gold medal match, San Marino started brilliantly, winning the first two sets and looking well on their way to the title. But Scotland, inspired by a spectacular performance from Rachel Morrison, MVP of the tournament, clawed their way back to force a fifth set and won it in a tight, nail-biting finish. Scotland were crowned champions, with San Marino taking home the silver medal, bringing an incredible and emotional weekend of Volleyball to a close.

SCA President Blair Pettigrew said: “Firstly, I want to congratulate Andorra on hosting a truly memorable championship. The organisation, support, venue and accommodation were all fantastic. Secondly, I want to thank the players, staff and member federations for putting on such a brilliant show. Ultimately, my congratulations go to Scotland as the overall winners, but there were standout performances from every team across the three days.  Finally, a thanks to FIVB and CEV for their support in allowing us to host these Zonal championships which continue to grow and go from strength to strength.”
