The long-anticipated European Golden League is finally here! The competition was opened up with a women’s match between Romania and Slovakia. Although Romania was a clear favorite, the match was won by the pool’s underdogs – Slovakia, by 1-3 (22-25, 12-25, 25-19, 18-25).

Slovakia opened up the match very well with five points of the advantage and Romania was struggling up until the end of the first set. With a four-point series (from 14-20 to 18-20) they’ve put a stop to Slovakian domination and got a little bit closer to the guests. In the end, this wasn’t enough and Slovakia closed the first set with 22-25.

Slovakia's domination continued in the second set. Romania sort of lost their head in the game and was making some errors and Slovakia took an easy win by 12-25.

But, their excellent performance was put on hold in the third set where Romanians took the lead. Although Slovakia was trying to get back up, they were making some errors on the net and this just wasn’t the set for them. It ended 25-19 for Romania. In the end, the whole match was won by Slovakia in the fourth set by 18-25 and 1-3 on the scoreboard.

Slovakia is now first in the group B with three points. The next match is on Wednesday when last year’s silver medalist the Czech Republic is meeting Slovakia.
