The 2024 edition of the U16 Women’s Championship organised by the Eastern European Volleyball Zonal Association (EEVZA) in Debica lasted for four days and delivered as many as 12 matches featuring the national teams of Azerbaijan, Estonia, Georgia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, and Ukraine. The stakes of the competition were high – in addition to medals and glory, the winners would secure a ticket to next year’s #EuroVolleyU16W, with hosts Poland eventually punching their ticket on Saturday.

From Wednesday to Friday, the competition got started and continued with the group stage. Poland topped the charts in Pool A, whereas a sensational team from Lithuania did the same in Pool B. These two teams advanced to the grand finale, which took place on Saturday at 8:00 pm.

Earlier in the day, matches for places 3-6 were played, thereby defining which teams would advance to the second round of qualifications for the European Championship scheduled for the spring of 2025 and more specifically their seeding as well. In the match for the fifth place, Estonia beat Georgia 3-0, while in the match for the bronze medal, Ukraine swept aside Latvia in three straight sets too.

The grand finale drew a large crowd of fans to the Municipal Sports and Recreation Centre (MOSiR) in Debica. Poland and Lithuania played very good Volleyball, with spectacular actions from both sides of the net and many twists of the plot. There could only be one winner though, and it was Poland, who stole the show in front of their home crowd, thereby winning the gold medal and booking their qualification for #EuroVolleyU16W.

#EuroVolleyU16W will take place from July 2-13, 2025, in Tirana, Albania and Pristina, Kosovo. It will feature 16 teams. Poland becomes the first team to join hosts Albania and Kosovo. More participants will be determined via the qualifiers organised by other Zonal Associations and the second round of qualifiers scheduled for late April 2025.

The EEVZA U16 women’s tournament in Poland was a huge success. The hosts’ matches were played in front of a full house, and all the tournament matches could be followed live on the official YouTube channel of the Polish Volleyball Federation.
