Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE - Ziraat Bank ANKARA

Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE

  • The most important word this season in Kędzierzyn Koźle is "injury". Bad luck haunts the defending Champions League champions (CEV CLV). Team captain Aleksander Śliwka joined the group of seriously injured players (Wojciech Żaliński, Cristian-Daniel Chitigoi, David Smith). Aleksander Śliwka is undergoing surgery on the second finger of his left hand on Monday.
  • Grupa Azoty KĘDZIERZYN-KOŹLE will play against the team from Ankara in the same lineup as in the last league match against Warsaw. They have to cope because they are a professional team and want to play in the Champions League, hopefully until the final, says Tuomas Sammelvuo, the coach of the team.
  • In matches against teams from Turkey, Grupa Azoty ZAKSA and previously Mostostal played 17  times out of which 10 times winning and recording 7 losses.  The last rival from Turkey was Fenerbahce HDI Sigorta with which ZAKSA played in the 2020/21 season.
  • The team from Kędzierzyn lost the chance to defend the Polish Cup - it was the biggest volleyball sensation of the past weekend. Now the team is focusing on playing for the National Championship and winning the Champions League group. Over 2,000 spectators are expected to watch the match on Tuesday against the team from Ankara in Kędzierzyn Koźle Azoty Hall.

  • The team from Ankara has been in Poland since Saturday, as it played its last league match on December 9. (10 wins, 2 losses and 3rd place in the Turkish league table) and could fly to Poland. ZAKSA also often uses this opportunity because for over two years, thanks to the activities of the club's president, the squad has been able to fly charters to Champions League matches, what enables them to prepare for matches more effectively. "We know how difficult match awaits us, so we wanted to prepare for this clash as best as possible, having a lot of rest and the opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the arena", says Matthew Anderson, an American international in the team from Ankara, well known to the volleyball players from Kędzierzyn when he played for Zenit Kazan and Perugia.
