BERLIN Recycling Volleys - Gas Sales Daiko PIACENZA

BERLIN Recycling Volleys

  • Daniel Malescha (opposite, #10): "We're not playing without any pressure tomorrow, because we can still finish in first position. That would help a lot for our Champions League campaign. Nevertheless, it's nice to have in the back of our minds that we will make it to the next round, no matter what happens. The home win against Ankara gave us a jolt. Since this victory we are convinced that we really can beat anyone here at home in front of our fans."
  • Kaweh Niroomand (General manager): "We have put ourselves in an excellent position so far. I did not believe it was possible that we could actually play for the group win at home on the last matchday. It's been a great performance by our team up to this point. There is no pressure to win. Nevertheless, the direct ticket into the quarter-finals is a huge incentive. If the team can develop the right mix of tension and relaxation from this, we might be able to achieve something great again. Piacenza is an absolutely outstanding team that has found its rhythm more and more in recent weeks. Anyone who can establish themselves so clearly among the top three in the Italian Super Lega ranking is naturally also one of the contenders for the Champions League title. This match will be a feast for the eyes for all spectators, whether at home or in our Volleyballtempel."
  • The BR Volleys have the chance to win their group in the CEV Champions League for the second time. They achieved this feat for the first and only time in 2021 with two sensational away wins at Zenit ST. PETERSBURG within 48 hours.
  • The men from the German capital have beaten Italian SuperLega teams twice at home so far. There were big surprises in the group stage against Diatec TRENTINO (3:0) back in 2013 and Cucine Lube CIVITANOVA (3:1) in 2016.
  • Outside spiker Robert Täht is back in the squad of the German champions following meniscus surgery. Whether the Berlin team will be complete on Wednesday evening, however, will only be decided at short notice. Libero Adam Kowalski became father for the second time on Tuesday.
  • The BR Volleys have played ten home games so far this season. They have won all of them - both nationally and internationally. More than 5,000 spectators will stand behind captain Ruben Schott & Co on the sixth matchday of the 2024 CEV Champions League.

Volleyball fans have ‘nicknamed’ the iconic Max-Schmeling-Halle ‘Germany’s Volleyball temple’. Actually, it is much more than just that – since this venue has played host to an impressive number of major international competitions as well, such as the 2002 FIVB Women’s World Championship, 2003 EuroVolley Men, 2013 EuroVolley Women, as well as the historic CEV Champions League Volley 2019 Super Finals back in May – to name only a few highlights. The Hall also plays as hosts to the Berlin Recycling Volleys, Germany's most decorated volleyball club with 10 Bundesliga titles and a CEV cup title in 2015/2016. The arena is located at Am Falkpl. 1, 10437 Berlin, Germany and holds up to 12,000 spectators. Capacity: 8533

Player Statistics

BERLIN Recycling Volleys - Gas Sales Daiko PIACENZA

  • A crowd of 5,621 spectators gathered in Berlin for the Champions League match between BR Volleys and Gas Sales Daiko PIACENZA.

BERLIN Recycling Volleys

  • Each player on the BR Volleys had a chance to prove themselves, with the exception of the libero, Adam KOWALSKI, who celebrated the birth of his second child yesterday, and outside spiker Robert TÄHT, who was back in the roster after a meniskus surgery.
  • The unwavering support of the little group of Piacenza fans resonated loudly throughout the match, and as a gesture of appreciation, they were presented with a signed match ball by the MVP, Yuri ROMANO.
  • Cody Kessel (#11): "A lot of things were missing today to put an opponent as strong as Piacenza into the danger zone. They played outstandingly and at a different level. We couldn't find our rhythm, even though the crowd gave us all the support they could."
  • Kaweh Niroomand (general manager): "Piacenza presented themselves as the expected strong and focussed opponent. We actually started the match well, but Yuri Romano's first series of serves instilled respect in our team. After that, the team couldn't find any ease. On a positive note, we still managed to hold our own for two sets and don't have to go into the play-off round with a bad feeling. We have every chance there."
