Anticipation mounts for upcoming Madrid VW Beach Pro Tour Futures
News
Two days prior the start of the much-anticipated Volleyball World Beach Pro Tour Futures, the Puerta de Hierro Beach Volleyball centre in Madrid played host to the official launch of the first such event scheduled for the 2022 season in Europe.
Alberto Tomé, Sports Vice-Councillor of the Madrid Community, Felipe Pascual, President of the Madrid Volleyball Federation (FMVB) and local organiser, and Luis Muchaga, Technical Director of the Royal Spanish Volleyball Federation (RFEVB) addressed the media right from the centre court named after Spanish Beach Volleyball star and multiple Olympian Elsa Baquerizo. A number of Spanish players – Javier Huerta, Gabriel Gutiérrez and Álvaro Viera – joined the authorities wearing the official three-colour competition uniforms decorated with the Madrid skyline.
Alberto Tomé“It is an honour for the Community of Madrid to bring some of the best players in the world to Puerta de Hierro, not only for the actual competition, but for tourism reasons as well. We hope there will be fans from more than 20 countries who will visit the region these days and get to know all the corners, cultural and leisure opportunities that our community has to offer,”

Javier Huerta, who will be competing along with Oscar Jimenez, commented, “I am really looking forward to start playing international circuit events this year.” This court brings back very good memories for Huerta, as this is where he claimed third place with Spain in the 2nd Round of the CEV Continental Cup last season, so this year he is “very excited to play at home again, in front of our people, and I want to do a good job.”
The tournament will take place in the exceptional facilities managed by the Madrid Volleyball Federation in Puerta de Hierro Sports Park, owned by the Community of Madrid, and in addition to the competition itself, there will be a technical clinic for young players, a sitting volley demonstration and a spectacular fan zone.
The men’s competition will be running from Thursday to Sunday of this week, followed by the women’s event next week.
