Azerbaijan’s Azerrail will be represented in both the men’s and women’s finals of the second edition of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup, which will be held in Montpellier on Sunday.
The Azeri club saw both their men’s and women’s teams remain undefeated after three days of competition on Saturday and secure their spots in the duels that will decide the title. The women’s final, against Ukraine’s Sunrise Beach Sports Academy, will start at 14:15 local time, while the men’s gold medal match, against Spain’s CVP Poniente Benidorm Alicante, is scheduled for 16:30 local time.
As the winners of Pool A, Azerrail’s men’s team started the elimination rounds in the quarterfinals, where they overcame Ukraine’s Sunrise Beach Sports Academy with back-to-back victories. A few hours later, they needed the golden set to beat the home team of Montpellier Beach Volley and advance to the final. If they triumph on Sunday, Azerrail will keep the men’s title of the Beach Volley European Cup in Azerbaijan as Murov AzTerminal were the winners last year in Balıkesir.
Their final opponents CVP Poniente Benidorm Alicante had a slightly more exhausting day on Saturday on their way to the final as the Spanish side played golden sets in both their encounters – they eliminated Slovenia’s BVC Ludus in the quarterfinals and Austria’s Aloha Beachvolleyball Club Wörthersee in the semifinals.
At 12:00, a few hours before the men’s final, Montpellier Beach Volley and Aloha Beachvolleyball Club Wörthersee will play for bronze in the second edition of the Beach Volley European Cup.
Azerrail’s women’s team was dominant in the quarterfinals, taking Türkiye’s TVF Spor Lisesi Ihtisas Kulübü down in two matches. In the semifinals, the Azeris were strongly challenged by the Hungarians of Ėdra Tata, but came out on top after the golden set.
