Dominik Gschiegl“Yes, it is possible to organise top international events on a sustainable basis. You just have to start with it.” Sustainability means preserving a future worth living in for future generations,” says the father of two. “Eco-social aspects and the preservation of resources and the environment are to be integrated in such a way that we provide opportunities for meeting the needs of future generations.”
“We take care of all ecological aspects,” explains Nicolas Hold, Managing Director of organisers HSG-Events. “We are not idealists, but realists,” continues his partner Dominik Gschiegl. “Sustainability is important to us and we want to send positive signals with our events.”
The sustainable orientation of Beach Volleyball Baden means for the organisers of HSG events that they will be using all resources responsibly from an economic, ecological and social standpoint. The harmonious coexistence between people and nature remains the primary focus.
To this end, measures include resource saving planning as well as a reduction in energy consumption at the event. For example, the organisers are using wooden advertising banners from last year, whose production does not need to take place every year. They have also pledged to reduce any interventions on the on-site ecosystem to what is strictly necessary.
When it comes to food and drinks, these are regionally, seasonally and fairly traded and preferably from organic production. The avoidance of waste and the separation of the waste generation is another important factor.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the tournaments will take place this year in the spacious Weilburgpark - which covers an area of more than 20,000 m2. The park is directly connected to the Baden thermal lido and currently offers four Beach Volleyball Courts. The construction of another court is planned for the coming year. There will not be any spectators this year at the venue. The implementation and observance of all health protocols will receive the greatest attention and this applies to athletes as much as to everybody else involved in the event.
