Beach Volleyball national champions crowned in Azerbaijan

The Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation (AVF) and the Ministry of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan joined forces this past week to deliver the 2022 edition of the Open National Beach Volleyball Championship in Baku with participation of 12 women’s and 16 men’s teams at the iconic Water Sports Palace.

The competition reached its climax on July 29 with Team Khazri (Yuliya Jernova/Alina Aslan) defeating Team Absheron (Narmina Musayeva/Fidan Ahmadkhanova) 2-0 to claim the women’s title. In the men’s tournament, Team Khizi (Vadim Kutukov/Asif Aliyev) beat Team Neftchi (Ulvi Rajabov/Heydar Mammadli) 2-0 in the gold medal match.

Team Azerrail (Sanubar Alasgarova/Asiad Abuyeva) claimed third place in the women’s competition, as Rabita Baku (Heydar Hasanov/Ali Farajov) completed the men’s podium.

The Minister of Youth and Sports of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr Farid Gayibov and Deputy Minister Mrs Mariana Vasileva were among the dignitaries to attend the medal ceremony, together with the Director of the Water Sports Palace Mr Zaur Yagubov. The Secretary General of the Azerbaijan Volleyball Federation, Mr Farid Khalilov, AVF General Coordinator Mr Zohrab Gozalbayli and the Director of the Smart Sport Company Mr Orkhan Shahverdiyev joined in as well.

The winners of the Open Azerbaijan Championships received medals, diplomas and prize money from the sponsors of the competition – the companies LENOVO, Division, G-Shock, Smart Sport, Azergold, Sirab and ElektroPark.
