BVC Ludus Ljubljana claims double gold at National Club Championships
News
The sands of Sports Park Ludus were electric this past Sunday, with a vibrant atmosphere fuelled not only by thrilling competition but also by a ParaVolley Europe event running in parallel, showcasing the inclusive and diverse spirit of the Volleyball community. The day culminated in a commanding performance by the home club, BVC Ludus Ljubljana, which swept and defended both the men’s and women’s titles at the Slovenian Beach Volleyball Club National Championships.
In the women’s competition, BVC Ludus showcased a masterful blend of experience and youthful energy. The team was spearheaded by the formidable duo of Tjasa Kotnik and Helena Mijoc, reprising their surprising, yet very successful, partnership from the MEVZA Club Championship final’s Golden Set earlier this year. They were powerfully supported by the promising U22 national team pair, Zoja Kalar and Neza Bednjanic. The silver medal went to the talented young team from OK Lubnik, led by members of Slovenia’s U20 and U18 national teams, Anja Potocnik and Neja Ferdin. The young squad of VC Portoroz finished in third place.
The men’s tournament was a testament to BVC Ludus’s strategic depth. One powerful pair featured newly crowned national champion David Renko teaming up with the legendary Danijel Pokersnik, a record 10-time national champion. The club’s second formidable team was led by national championships bronze medallist Jaka Jevsnik, who was joined by Maks Sluga, Yan Pigarev, and Nejc Zemljak. This collective strength proved decisive in the final against the impressive youngsters from Klub Moderne Odbojke, led by Miha Kosanc and Benjamin Mugerli, who recently also represented Slovenia at the U22 European Championships in Baden, Austria. Third place went to OK Lubnik.
The dual victories on their home court not only solidify BVC Ludus’s position as the dominant force in Slovenian club Beach Volleyball but also represent a boost for their participation in the upcoming CEV Beach Volley European Cup 2025, thereby capping off a memorable day of high-level competition.
