Cēsis, Latvia, ready to host second stop of EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour

The second stop of this year’s EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour / annual DEPO Open will take place from July 12 to 14 at the Cēsis city stadium, Latvia. This past June an EEVZA zonal event was held in Estonia, thereby providing up-and-coming teams with much-needed opportunities to compete on the international stage and secure valuable ranking points. Teams from Estonia and Lithuania claimed top honours from the men’s and women’s competitions, respectively. 

The second stop of the EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour takes place this weekend in Latvia

As many as 43 teams have registered for the men’s competition, whereas 28 are due to contest the women’s tournament. 2012 Olympic bronze medallist Mārtiņš Pļaviņš of Latvia will join forces with Edgars Točs, with whom he finished in fourth place at the Tokyo Olympics three years ago. The host country will be represented also by emerging players such as Ernests Puškundzis and Toms Emīls Liepa, Olivers Bulgačs and Markuss Graudiņš. Mantas Donela and Karolis Palubinskas from Lithuania and Ukraine’s Vitalii Savvin and Anton Moiseiev will be among the potential medal contenders at this second stop of the EEVZA Beach Volleyball Tour 2024. 

In the women’s competition, Līva Ebere/Deniela Konstantinova, Anete Namiķe/Anija Ozoliņa, and Marta Ozoliņa/Luize Skrastiņa will be carrying the Latvian hopes of success on home soil. Gerda Grudzinskaite/Urte Andriukaityte and Skalve Križanauskaite/Ariana Rudkovskaja of Lithuania will compete for top honours together with young Ukrainians Yeva Serdiuk/Daria Romaniuk. Some 23 teams from Lithuania, Ukraine and Estonia altogether are expected to compete on Latvian sand this weekend. 

The competition will start on Friday from 11:00 with the qualification round, followed later in the evening by the first round of men’s pool matches. On Saturday morning it will continue with group games and the first round of the playoff tournament, and on Sunday the day will start with the quarterfinals and end with the determination of the eventual medallists. 

Fans are invited to experience first-hand high-class Beach Volleyball, to participate in contests, win prizes, as well as enjoy good music and cheerleading performances. The most exciting Sunday matches will be broadcast on Latvian TV channels Best4Sport and LTV7.
