CEV Beach Volley European Cup Final gets underway with thrilling matches and weather challenges
News
The CEV Beach Volley European Cup 2025 Final started on Thursday, November 6, in Heraklion, Crete, with the event organised at the state-of-the-art TUI Magic Life Candia Maris facilities on Ammoudara Beach. The very same venue had played host earlier this year to a preliminary phase event scheduled for the CEV Beach Volley Nations Cup.
The opening day featured a series of exciting group-stage matches in both the men’s and women’s tournaments. However, weather conditions worsened significantly by midday, as heavy rain turned into a storm, thus forcing the suspension of the last match of the day.
In men’s Pool A, Sunrise Beach Sports Academy (Ukraine) and ZVH Zevenhuizen (Netherlands) started strong, earning victories over Montpellier Beach Volley Club (France) and Aloha Beach Volley Club (Austria), respectively. The Ukrainians won their first double header 2-0, while the Dutch team dominated both of their games against the Austrians.
In men’s Pool B, BC Strahov (Czechia) achieved two wins against the Greek teams of 4 Sports Club Athens. Ré Beach Club (France) also started their journey on a positive note, defeating CSU Resita (Romania) 2-0.
In the women’s Pool A, Sunrise Beach Sports Academy (Ukraine) confirmed its status as favourites with victories over EDRA Tata (Hungary) and BVC Ludus Ljubljana (Slovenia). The Greek pairs of 4 Sports Club faced tough opposition from BVC Ludus, suffering defeats in their opening matches but showing much fighting spirit ahead of Friday’s games against EDRA Tata and Sunrise Beach Sports Academy.
In women’s Pool B, CV Majadahonda (Spain) and KBC Oxyklinika (Lithuania) delivered the day’s most competitive matches, with several ties decided in tiebreaks. Ré Beach Club (France) also secured an important 2-1 win over Beograd Beach Volley (Serbia).
