With the weather conditions resembling more autumn than the sort of climate you would expect in late August, Doppler and Horst beat the no. 1 seeded Alexander Huber and Christoph Dressler 21-17, 21-19. This result means that Doppler and Horst have completed their last tournament together without dropping a single set.
Clemens Doppler“I am super happy that we were able to win the tournament without losing a set on our last appearance! That was more than we had actually expected. Although we had to fight in every match, we also came back from two or three points behind in the final - but it is extremely cool that we won this tournament without losing a set. A nice circle that closes. I am very proud that we can end our joint career with a win!”
Alexander Horst“It was a lot of fun to be able to play again on Danube Island - despite the not-so-good weather, a surprising number of people were here. We had a lot of fun. We are of course happy that we were able to show a solid performance and that we won in the end and not lost our last game together. We are very, very happy about this victory.”
In the women’s competition, the top seeded duo Viktoria Fink/Eva Freiberger secured gold with a 21-18, 21-19 final victory over the Czechs Barbora Tokosova/Jana Simanicova.
The bronze medals went to Birgit Schöttl/Anna Mayr, 21-10, 21-17 winners over Karin Elsner and Jennifer Pfau, and Jakub Šépka/Tomas Semerád. The Czechs prevailed against Jakob Reiter and Michael Murauer 21-19, 21-9.
In the coming week, September 3-5, the last stop of the Austrian Beach Volleyball Tour PRO 160 will be taking place in St. Johann in Tirol.
