Teams from the Netherlands emerged as the dominant force at the Beach Volleyball event organised this past weekend by the Western European Volleyball Zonal Association (WEVZA) in Rimini, a highly popular seaside resort on Italy’s Adriatic coast.
Leanne van Vegten and Jill de Groot (NED) won the gold medal match against their compatriots Marly Bak/Bjorna Gras 2-0 (21-14, 21-16), whilst Anna Piccoli/Martina Foresti secured the bronze medals after a hard-fought 2-1 victory (21-14, 23-21, 18-16) over their countrywomen Luna Cicola/Andrea Maria Nucete in an all-Italian third place match.
The WEVZA zonal event was organised by promoter PowerBeach in cooperation with B-Side Management under the patronage of the Municipality of Rimini and with VAR GROUP, IMA, Subaru, and Macron as the main event sponsors.
Valeria Tallevi Diotallevi and Giada Godenzoni were the best performing team for hosts PowerBeach. They finished the competition in fifth place after losing their quarterfinal fixture to Cicola/Nucete 1-2 (21-13, 15-21, 16-18).
Enrico Lupatelli“We cared a lot about this event, since Rimini is our home and our city has been missing for a long time in the international Beach Volleyball calendar; our location Tiki26 Beach Club was, as usual, efficient and welcoming.”
