The Queen and King of the Court European Finals 2023 represent a truly history-making event for Luxembourg and the local as well as the European Volleyball family. This feeling was shared on Tuesday morning when representatives of the partners involved in the event delivery came together at d’Coque shortly before action got underway in Luxembourg City downtown.

An event of this magnitude and relevance has never taken place in Luxembourg – and therefore it is with much pride that the local authorities, starting with Sports Minister Georges Engel, welcome the European Beach Volleyball elite to the Grand Duchy as the Queen and King of the Court European Finals combine elite, high-level performance with a truly unique beach party atmosphere. The delivery of this event is an opportunity to inspire local youngsters to chase and pursue their dreams in competitive sport as much as to promote a healthy lifestyle across the wider population.

CEV Managing Director Thorsten Endres emphasised the importance of holding such an event in a country which has been the home of European Volleyball since 1988 and in conjunction with the CEV’s 50th anniversary as well. Interestingly, this also coincides with the 60th anniversary of the Luxembourg Volleyball Federation – and to raise the event profile even further, His Royal Highness the Grand-Duke of Luxembourg and his wife have confirmed that they will be visiting the tournament on Wednesday evening.

Action has started in Luxembourg with the women's qualification

The Queen and King of the Court European Finals provide a once-in-a-lifetime chance for the home teams of Luxembourg to measure themselves up against the real continental elite of the sport in a highly dynamic, entertaining, and energetic version of Beach Volleyball. It is a dream come true for the local ‘guns’ and the players of Team Luxembourg all look forward to enjoying this opportunity to the fullest and to inspire some younger friends to work hard to achieve the same feat.

Even though the partners involved, including d’Coque and Dutch promoter Sportworx, have had only a couple of months to deliver this competition, they have been working hand and hand and very hard showing much resilience to overcome the challenges that have emerged along the way – just like all the teams competing here for the crown that will be at stake on Saturday when the new Queens and Kings of the Court will be standing on top of the podium in Luxembourg!
