The Beach Volleyball competitions in Paris have reached the semi-finals stage, with a lot still at stake for the European teams that are now just a win away from getting an Olympic medal.
All four semi-finals matches are schedule to take place today, 8th August and three men's teams and one women's team hoping to continue their Olympic Gold dream come this evening. On the men's side, Reigning Olympic champions and second-seeded Mol/Sorum from Norway, undefeated in Paris, will be facing Germany's Nils Ehlers & Clemens Wickler, a team that has been in excellent form.
C. Sorum via Volleyball World“It’s going to be a tough game against Germany. They are really on fire this tournament and playing their best volleyball, so it’s going to be a super tough game and we just have to rest well and prepare as good as we can,”
The other semi-final will see European Champs and first-seeded team, Sweden's David Ahman & Jonatan Hellvig face the pair from Qatar, Cherif/Ahmed for the second time this tournament. The "Flying Swedes" will be hoping they've learnt from their defeat against Qatar from the pool phase and book their spot in what would be an All-European Final.
On the women's side, three European teams fell out of the competition in the quarter-finals stage, with Switzerland's reigning European Champs, Huberli/Brunner being the only duo to keep their medal chances alive. They will now face Canada's fourth-seed Melissa/Brandie in the opening match of the semis in what is expected to be another action packed evening at the Eiffel Tower Arena in the French capital.
