Herrera/Gavira and Métral/Haussener to fight for gold at VW Beach Pro Tour in Madrid

Saturday's programme at the VW Beach Pro Tour in Madrid began with four intense matches with teams in search for a place in the quarterfinals. Once the 8 couples contesting the quarterfinals were known, the battle for the semifinals began. After a day full of matches resolved in tiebreaks, the Spanish duo Pablo Herrera and Adrián Gavira and the Swiss pair formed by Quentin Métral and Yves Haussener became finalists of the international competition.
Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira got their pass to the semifinals after beating the Latvian couple Edgars Tocs and Kristians Fokerots by 2-0 (17-21, 14-21). The Spanish duo returned to the Elsa Baquerizo court for the last match of an exciting Saturday filled with Beach Volleyball action, where they won the ticket to the final. The Spanish multiple Olympians won 2-1 (21-18, 24-26, 16-14) against the Slovenians Nejc Zemljak and Jan Pokersnik, in a very even match, where Herrera and Gavira were able to overcome a great third set in front of a large crowd.

On the other hand, the other finalist pair, the Swiss Métral and Haussener won their place in the final thanks to their two victories against the Italians Jakob Windisch and Gianluca Dal Corso by 2-1 (26-28, 21-13, 15-11) in the quarterfinals and against the Dutch pair formed by Matthew Immers/Mart van Werkhoven by 2-0 (21-18, 25-23).
The Swiss pair remarked after securing their place in the final that it had been a long day. Métral and Haussener also said that "we are very happy to have reached the final and we are excited to play against Herrera and Gavira as we have never played against them".
The VW Beach Pro Future of Madrid will end this Sunday with the third and fourth place match between the Dutch Immers and Van Werkhoven and the Slovenians Zemljak and Pokersnik, and with the final between the Spanish pair Pablo Herrera and Adrian Gavira against Métral and Haussener from Switzerland.
