Last day of #EuroBeachVolleyU18 without Slovenian teams
News
No teams from Slovenia have made it to the semi-final or classification matches of this year’s #EuroBeachVolleyU18 held in Ljubljana. Teams from seven countries will run for the medals on Sunday in Slovenia’s capital city.
Germany’s Jule Mantsch and Annika Berndt were the first team to secure their spot in the semi-finals. In a rematch of the last Pool A fixture, the Germans outplayed Daria Gusarova and Maria Olga Siapani of Cyprus for a second time (21-14, 21-10). On Sunday, they will lock horns with Switzerland’s Leona Kernen and Muriel Bossart, who thumped Denmark’s Caroline Stenholt Krogh and Frida Meincke Lyø through a comprehensive 2-0 (21-16, 21-15) win.
Austria’s Marie Bruckner and Emma Hohenauer emerged victorious in the clash against Dutch Noa Sonneville and Maren de Jong. The Austrians, who earlier in the day eliminated the home duo Anja Puckmeister/Tija Šketa Rozman, celebrated a 2-0 (21-18, 21-12) win. Bruckner is already looking forward to the semis, where they will meet Ukraine: “We know they are a really good team, but we hope we will play as good as we did today.”
Emma Hohenauer (AUT)“We won the quarter-final match surprisingly easily. The Netherlands are a very good team but we tried our best and I think we managed it pretty well. We are just happy with the result and we will try our best tomorrow.”
Ukraine’s team Yeva Serdiuk and Daria Romaniuk firstly knocked out the second Slovenian tandem – Živa Javornik/Ula Gorjup in three sets (21-12, 23-25, 15-11), while in the quarter-finals they struggled against Poland’s Julia Kielak and Malgorzata Ciezkowska but still managed to have the upper hand in the end (21-16, 27-29, 15-8).
In the men’s tournament, Austria’s Timo Hammarberg and Tim Berger eliminated Ukraine’s Yevhenii Boiko and Vladyslav Omelchuk in straight sets (21-16, 21-17). A round before, they were also those to upset the last Slovenian team in the competition, Rok Bračko/Luka Marovt. In the semi-final, they will meet Poland’s Filip Lejawa and Aleksander Czachorowski, who recorded a 2-0 (21-15, 21-11) win versus Germany’s Hennes Jorge Nissen and Bo Hansen.
France’s Arthur Canet and Téo Rotar clashed with Russia’s Vladislav Panchenko and Ivan Chuprinov. The French started the match better but after a spectacular performance, the Russians eventually celebrated a 2-1 (16-21, 21-16, 15-13) victory.
Vladislav Panchenko (RUS)“It was a very good and difficult match. This was our second encounter - we already played against them in the previous championship, where we also won. It is an extremely good team - so we had to use all our experience to change the course of the match. We want to continue this way also tomorrow. First, we need to relax and get some sleep - then we will concentrate on the semi-finals, where we are hoping for another amazing game.”
Their opponents will be Latvia’s Kristians Fokerots and Gustavs Auzins, who were the better team in a duel against Belgium’s Kyan Vercauteren and Jelle De Hert (19-21, 21-16, 15-10).
