The competition at this year’s #EuroBeachVolleyU18 resumed on a sunny Thursday with the start of the pool phase in Ljubljana. The rising Beach Volleyball stars delivered many exciting matches, which bodes well for the coming days.

Germany's Jule Mantsch and Annika Berndt are yet to drop a set in Ljubljana

In the women’s tournament, Russia’s Elizaveta Gubina and Ekaterina Shevtsova, Dutch Noa Sonneville and Maren de Jong, Cyprus’ Daria Gusarova and Maria Olga Siapani, Switzerland’s Leona Kernen and Muriel Bossart, and Germany’s Jule Mantsch and Annika Berndt did not drop a single set on the first competition day.

The Germans, who have already secured their spot in the next round, were happy with their performance:

“Despite having a bit of a difficult start, we managed to change our game and showed what we can. Two wins are definitely good for the beginning of the tournament. We hope to finish first in our group, and we believe that if we play at our best, we can achieve it.”

Ukraine’s Yeva Serdiuk and Daria Romaniuk, Hungary’s Hanna Gubik and Zsófia Vasvári, Poland’s Julia Kielak and Malgorzata Ciezkowska, Belgium’s Marion Beauve and Jade Van Deun, and Austria’s Marie Bruckner and Emma Hohenauer were also all smiles after the first day with two wins on their account.

The home teams did not catch a very good start to the tournament, finishing the first day with only one win. Zoja Kalar and Rima Posedel were the one that held the upper hand in the match against Yllka Jashariand/Agnesa Koxha from the Republic of Kosovo with a 2-0 (21-9, 21-14) win.

Men’s teams played only one match each. The majority of the top-seeded pairs started the tournament victorious, only home heroes Rok Bračko and Luka Marovt, as first-ranked team, were on the losing side. Regardless of the result of the first match, all the teams kept their chances to proceed to the next round - what promises an exciting second day of the event on Friday.
