As some sort of an introduction to the CEV U18 Beach Volleyball European Championships, the Sports Park Ludus held qualifications in the men’s tournament. Five teams competed for the two remaining places still available in the Main Draw. The Andorran duo Nahuel Tagliaferro/Xavier Mas Rodrigues was the first one to say goodbye to the event. Norway’s Adrian Mol and Oscar Majak Gundersen, Finland’s Otto Keinonen and Aleksi Oksanen, Denmark’s Christian Lundby Andersen and Marius Stenmann Hansen, and Slovakia’s Dominik Jancok and Denis Lapos remained in contention for the two coveted tickets to the Main Draw.
Mol and Majak claimed a dramatic 21-16, 27-29 and 15-10 victory over the Finns, while Lundby/Stenmann had no problems to secure a 2-0 (21-9, 21-13) win over the team from Slovakia.
Christian Lundby was obviously satisfied with their achievement:
“We tried to play the best we could, so it was not too nerve-wracking at the end of the match. Nevertheless, we were a bit nervous before the game because it was the last obstacle before the main draw and it would have been sad not to proceed, but we believed in ourselves and it is great that we made it, so we are very happy.”
