From June 23 to 25, the 2023 Women’s and Men’s Beach Volleyball Championships of Armenia were held in Yerevan with the support of the Ministry of Sports and Youth, with participation of 16 women’s and 10 men’s teams.
In the women’s competition, Team Geghashen from Kotayk Province caused a surprise, as they were able to beat more experienced sides and reach the final stage. Their second team, aka Geghashen-2 (Nelli-Lusine) eventually ended the tournament in third place after recording a 2-0 victory over Team BSU. Team Van (Ofelya-Svetlana) beat Geghashen-1 (Arpine-Milena) in two sets to claim top honours.
Teams FIMA-1, BKMA, FIMA-2 and Gyumri reached the last four of the men’s competition. FIMA-2 (Razmik-Zaven) and BKMA (Vahe-Samvel) successfully negotiated the semis to stay in contention for gold. Team FIMA-2 edged their colleagues and friends from FIMA-1 (Ashot-Yuri) at the end of a closely contested match. The final match turned out to be very interesting, full of tense moments. The younger FIMA-2 team was able to gain an advantage early in the match, but the more experienced players of BKMA were the eventual winners.
The men’s championship was recognised by the European Volleyball Confederation as a club championship round and the winners will participate in the first edition of the CEV Beach Volley European Cup in the fall of 2023. The winning teams of the championship were awarded with certificates, medals, and cups.
