Not everything is beach volleyball at the Puerta de Hierro Sports Park in Madrid. On the opening day of the VW Beach Pro Tour Futures Madrid, the great event in Madrid showcased its most charitable side, highlighting the work of the Aladina Foundation.
Since 2005, the Aladina Foundation has been working to ensure that children and adolescents with cancer never lose their smiles. Founded by Paco Arango, from day one, it has provided comprehensive support so that no sick child or their families ever lose their smiles or their desire to fight.
To highlight this, what can a former basketball player, a presenter, or an ice skater do together on the sand? Come together around the Mikasa and play beach volleyball. Hand in hand with the VW Beach Pro Tour Futures and the Aladina Foundation, they were part of a very special 'King of the Court' alongside three luxury godmothers: Belén Carro, Nazaret Florián, and Sofía González, who will compete in next week's women's tournament at the Beach Pro Tour.
Sports personalities, television personalities, and politicians battled on the courts of the Puerta de Hierro Sports Park Beach Volleyball Center alongside professional players. Belén Carro, Nazaret Florián, and Sofía González each captained a team: Florián played with Fran Murcia, a former basketball player, and Noelia Núñez, a Deputy of the Madrid Assembly; Carro did the same with ice skater Sara Hurtado and J.J Hombrados, a former handball player, and González led the team of María Cabezón, responsible for Federated Sports at the General Directorate of Sports of the CAM, and Director of Sports at Telemadrid, Javier Callejo.
An entire experience, where laughter and unexpected points abounded, and although the team led by Madrid player and reigning Spanish champion, Belén Carro, was crowned 'King/Queen of the court,' the result was secondary, as the match had a 100% charitable background, one of the values of the VW Beach Pro Tour Futures Madrid, highlighting the work of the Aladina Foundation, which provides assistance to more than 1,500 sick minors from all over Spain in the 20 hospitals where they collaborate.
