Three Austrian teams reach semis at Innsbruck MEVZA BeachEvent
News
The second day of the Innsbruck BeachEvent was all about intense duels and Red-White-Red success. In an euphoric atmosphere on Innsbruck’s Market Square, three Austrian teams were able to secure a place in the semi-finals of the event that counts as a MEVZA zonal competition as well.
In the women’s competition, four different nations - Austria, Slovenia, Hungary, and Czechia - will feature in the semi-finals. Austria is deservedly represented by the duo Lia Berger/Lilli Hohenauer, who defeated Slovakia’s Barbora Tokosova/Martina Terenova in straight sets. For the second Austrian duo, Magdalena Rabitsch/Anja Trailovic, the quarter-final against Slovenia’s Tjaša Kotnik/Maja Marolt coincided with the end of their campaign, but they bid farewell to the competition with an overall strong tournament performance.
In the men’s competition, the mood in the Austrian camp is twofold: both Laurenc Grössig/Maximilian Trummer and Felix Friedl/Florian Schnetzer are in top form. Grössig/Trummer defeated Michael Klemen/Philipp Sponer with a clear 2-0 victory, while Friedl/Schnetzer beat their countrymen Florian Ertl/Raphael Trauth 2-0 as well. The two home teams will play an all-Austrian semi-final on Sunday and fight for a place in the final.
But it was not just the sport that provided excitement. With almost 30 degrees, plenty of sunscreen and a good mood, the arena became a real beach oasis. The hot temperatures were countered with water hoses and cool drinks, while the DJs and entertainment team provided the right soundtrack. Spontaneous dance interludes and Mexican waves made the atmosphere unforgettable. A day that sparked enthusiasm beyond the sport!
