A group of young Beach Volleyball referees recently had the opportunity to take the step next in their careers as they attended the Beach Pro Tour Futures event organised in Brussels, Belgium, earlier this month where they performed their duties under the supervision of CEV Technical Supervisor Felipe Pascual and with the support of the CEV European Refereeing Commission (ERC), Volley Belgium and international Beach Volleyball referee Maarten Ghysel acting as Referee Manager.

These young referees literally seized the opportunity and showed a high level of performance throughout the week they spent in the Belgian capital. As many as five of the eight international referees officiating in Brussels had attended the last two courses organised by the CEV to grow the next generation of international Beach Volleyball match officials.

More specifically, the men’s final featuring teams from Austria and Israel was successfully refereed by an all-female team, with Jaanika Unt from Estonia acting as 1st referee and Juliane König from Germany as 2nd referee. They had attended the CEV International Beach Volleyball Candidate Courses organised in 2023 and 2022, respectively.

Moreover, the first referee of the women’s final involving teams from Finland and Germany was Pawel Kryda from Poland – a ‘graduate’ from the 2023 course as well – supported by his experienced countryman Marcin Grzelak.
