The #CLVolleyW squads took the court against their strong opponents this weekend in their domestic leagues. Of course, the most anticipated one was held between two Polish participants from the same city, Lodz. While the LKS side took a three-set victory over Budowlani, the first set especially brought a good story. Likewise, Imoco survived in five sets in Italy, and Potsdam suffered another defeat in Germany in the tie-break.
Two CEV Champions League Volley squads faced off in the biggest derby of Poland: LKS Commercecon Lodz and Grot Budowlani Lodz took the court against each other in the 12th round of the Polish Tauron Liga. LKS side played a superior game throughout the match and took a three-set victory, but especially the first set, which ended 30-28, determined the remaining scores as well.
With a straight-set victory against their strong rival (3-0: 30-28, 25-17, 25-20), LKS maintained their third position and increased the gap with the Budowlani side, who placed fifth after twelfth games.
Four players scored in double digits on the winning side, but one player clearly stood out: MVP of the match, Polish middle blocker Aleksandra Gryka became the top scorer with 17 points, including three blocks and one ace. Amanda Campos and Valentina Diouf also contributed to the victory with 12 points each. American Mackenzie May scored 12 points on Budowlani.
The weekend finished harder than expected for the remaining domestic league titleholder A. Carraro Imoco Volley Conegliano in Italy: They met Wash4green Pinerolo in the 12th leg of the Italian Serie A1 Women, and the game was tied in 2-2 after four sets. However, in the determining tie-break, Daniele Santarelli’s squad used their experience and quality and left the court without letting any surprise happen (3-2: 25-21, 24-26, 25-14, 23-25, 15-13).
Swedish superstar Isabelle Haak was honored with the MVP award thanks to her 29 points, while Khalia Lanier (20) and Alessia Gennari (14) also helped the team. Adelina Ungureanu’s 16 points were not enough for the victory on the losing side.
Even though they experienced their first loss in terms of points, Imoco maintained their winning streak, remained undefeated in Italy, and completed the weekend in the leading position.
The German participant of the CEV Champions League Volley, SC Potsdam, hosted Dresdner SC in the tenth leg of the German 1. Bundesliga Women. Both teams put a great effort on the court, and the game extended to the fifth set. Dresdner side performed better here and became victorious by 3-2 (24-26, 25-17, 25-19, 24-26, 15-11).
Elisabet Frohling Grace became the most productive player on the winning side with 21 points, while Finnish promising outside hitter Katrina Suvi Kokkonen performed exceptionally promising with 26 points in total in Potsdam.
